MTV VMAs - the good, the bad and the ugly

Last night's VMAs caused a style storm as celebrities took to the red carpet in the best and worst outfits of this season. Once again the population of tinseltown attempted to outdo each other in an array of dresses, sharp suits and some other more unusual combos. Like school prom night, style statements were made by some unlikely heroes and heroines, the dreamy looked, well, dreamy as per, those who played it safe looked 'yawn' nice and others dug some very unusual outfits out from granny's attic.

So, without further ado, here are the good, the bad and the ugly VMAs 2014:

Beyonce Knowles

Bey channeled Morticia Addams in an elegant, demure number. The see-through lace panels added a little interest to the look and the fabulous earrings give a nod to Mrs Carter's signature style. This look is perfect for an awards ceremony and shows that Bey's role as a mum hasn't compromised her glamorous ways.

VERDICT: GOOD

Taylor Swift

WHAT IS THIS?! Seriously though, however much I dislike Taylor Swift I have to admit, she's got great pins and (normally) fab style. This Mary Katrantzou playsuit is a strong piece but definitely not teamed with purple stripper heels on the red carpet. Although her legs look amazing, the cut of the suit is giving Ms Swift a bad case of camel toe. Something vintage in emerald green to contrast her statement red lip would've worked so much better, or even a close cut trouser suit a la Jessica Hart in Dion Lee. 

VERDICT: NONONONONONONONO

Sam Smith 

Even for the tender age of 21, Sam sure knows how to wear a suit. The midnight blue colour and sharp, thin collar gives Mr Smith an usual look which is both stylish and current. I'm a little unsure about the shoes, which resemble something Shrek would wear, however I do love the overall look. Well in Sam! 

VERDICT: YEAHHHH

Chris Brown 

One of my bugbears are joggers with elasticated ankles, they should only be worn in the privacy of the home or by toddlers, so Chris has no excuse for this slobbish look. Granted, he's a rapper and therefore quite a bad ass, however, the dark glasses and red trainers seem out of place on the red carpet. Add his lumberjack shirt and bin-bag style bomber to the mix and you have a look which would be more suited to a Maccies drive through than a music awards ceremony.

VERDICT: ERRRR NAH

I popped onto the GlamorousUK website today and found some gorgeous items I HAD to share with you. All this lovely pieces are brand new and fit nicely into the autumn/winter trends too.

Dogstooth print and collars channel the macho-androgynous looks that we've seen all year long, whilst the studded shorts (which I ADORE) are a total wardrobe staple and are a nod the the grunge 90's catwalk looks that have been a hit.

The metallic silver skirt is very under-the-sea but also quite futuristic. However, it's simple enough to wear a t-shirt and flats' it's a great everyday piece.

The burgundy playsuit, or should I say Oxblood playsuit? #colouroftheseason is a great take on fifties tailoring with a pleated top half and straight-leg shorts.

I chose the black bodycon dress because it's just so cute! This is completely 'Mad Men', shows off the silhouette well and has some detail around the neck which links to the baroque trend nicely.

Basically, Glamorous has become one my favourite online shops, they're great with customers and the items are always well-made and reasonably priced. Hassle-free online shopping is what I like, and buying from Glamorous has always been a good experience.

More importantly though, I LOVE the clothes, they're unique, student-friendly and updated regularly

playsuits or summer dresses? Which will you choose?

Now summer is FINALLY upon us (It's been a long wait, I know) we can all get our legs out, don our flipflops and buck up the courage to wear those tropical print pants you bought in April! BUT the big question is this - for a hol what do you prefer, playsuits or dresses?

When playsuits first hit the catwalk, like many I saw something that looked a little like a 70's throwback and to be honest, I really wasn't convinced. A few playsuits later however, I have to say I'm hooked. They're light, come in crazy styles and give you that little bit of a 'fashionista' edge when you're abroad. 

My one problem with playsuits has always been the length; I'm yet to find one that I'm totally comfortable in. Apparently we only have two length options, long boho chic style, which is really for evening wear and should really be classed as a jumpsuit, or uuber short shorts, supposedly 'ideal for clubbing,' not so ideal for those of us who don't like to show our bum cheeks on a night out. 

I have to say, working at Next does have its perks, which includes a 25% discount card, which means I've been stopping myself from raiding the place. In short, the summer season stock, especially the playsuits and dresses, does not disappoint. I've picked out some gorgeous playsuits below, which are really well priced and elegant enough that they can be dressed down for day, or 'accessoried up' for night. 

 Dresses are the traditional summer staple for many - I love the fact that dresses come in so many different styles and luckily for me the catwalk was full of them for summer 2012.

Bird prints and other kooky animal designs ( a slight reference to early Galliano) were seen across many designer's summer ranges and Next has made sure these are part of its summer collection.

 

I'm also LOVING this gorgeous Lipsy maxi dress. The pastel colours are so on-trend and the cut and style of this dress means its so easy to wear. For me, this really is a statement piece.

So, all in all, I have to admit that when it comes to playsuits and dresses, I'll take them all! Sorry Next, but I just love all of these designs!

Evening in Prague

Well as you know, I am addicted to clothes and unfortunately this led me to drag poor Jonny round the shops on our first day away! We ended up in a massive shopping centre (Prague is VERY good for shopping, take note!) and I popped into the ever-reliable H&M for a "browse." After trying half the shop on, I emerged with a lovely little summery number, in a gorgeous aquamarine colour, channelling the under-the-sea style we saw at Chanel and Versace not so long ago. I admit it wasn't a show stopping piece, but for £12.00 how could I moan? Also, prague was soooo hot that a floaty dress with some basic accessories suited me just fine for an evening meal.

I added a gorgeous mother of pearl long chain necklace that I found for a fiver in a local Czech boutique (bargain!) to continue the marine theme and ta-dahhhh! Okay, it's not something that I'd wear out in the evening for dinner over here, but when you're walking in 35 degree heat, looking uber stylish is a hard job! So I kept it clean and simple, and Jonny appeared to approve! Quick, cheap and simple, this dress is a sure fire buy for anyone looking for something they can wear both day and night abroad, pop into your local H&M and you'll see what I mean!
