For a suitably casual Saturday I opted for a simple take on the sportswear trend which has stubbornly refused to budge since SS 12. Even if you're a fan of the more traditional, feminine look, I'm afraid to tell you that simple shapes, masculine accessories and trainers *gasp* are here to stay. I've not donned a pair of trainers for casual wear (excluding Converse of course) since my neon trainers, which doubled as football boots for a day at the park. Those days, thankfully, are long gone, however I could not resist these trainers, initially bought for netball, but not the permanent home for my feet. Supportive, stylish and light as a feather, they have changed my whole perception of footwear. I promise I've not turned into an OAP overnight but hey, who says we have to wear uncomfortable shoes day in day out?! I am a big believer in stuffing my size seven soles into a variety of shoes in the hope that one day they'll appear dainty and when shoe shopping, "they'll stretch" is always on the tip of my tongue. Now I'm a trainer convert. No, this doesn't mean I'll be ditching my array of more feminine footwear anytime soon, in fact I've just bought some army green stilettos with heels to kill, but think about it, no bloke would buy a pair of uncomfortable shoes, so why should women ALWAYS opt for the most impractical in the shop? My Adidas v-neck is another more masculine purchase, I promise I'm gradually introducing a little more colour to my otherwise grey day-to-day wardrobe, but I couldn't resist this top which reminds me of the old England kits of the '80s. Paired with my good old ankle grazers from Topshop, I think my look is casual enough to wear during the week, without looking like I'm off to the gym! Accessorized with my denim jacket and leather rucksack, I'm also ticking off the double denim trend, another stubborn style, and the penchant for travelling chic this season.

I've been buying a few little feminine pieces this week, so the next outfit I share with you will be more colourful I promise!

The Straw that Broke the Camel's Back

Hello stranger. I've been away for so long, it's despicable really. My blog's been having a little trouble, so I've not been able to update it for ages. However, I'm back with a bang in this beautiful shirt. 

Yes, before you ask, it hasn't got camels on it, they're alpacas/llamas, but I still think it's worth a post. I've been very hesitant about vintage online shopping since I ordered something from a site and the item arrived looking like it'd been fished out of someone's bin. Online shopping is a risky business as anyone will know, ordering clothing which arrives in the wrong size/colour is the most disappointing thing. However, I thought I'd try the whole 'virtual thrift shop' thing again, man up and purchase something from one of the many sites out there. 

A friend recommended I take a look at Brag Vintage , one of the big boys in the online vintage business. Skeptical, but willing to give anything a go, I had a peep at their site and boy was I impressed. Most of the stock was under £20 (it's a real bugbear of mine when 'vintage' i.e. old clothes, are ridiculously priced. If it's designer then fair doos, but otherwise keep prices low and customers happy) and this shirt immediately caught my eye. Although it's C&A, the quality is pretty darn good, the pattern is very current (aztec chic I think!) and it looks pretty bloody cool with loafers and jeans. 

I took this beaut to Festival Number 6 and it was a really versatile piece for the weekend! 

Jeans-wise, these topshop lovelies have not been off my legs since I bought them. I'm a sucker for soft denim and these indigo high-waist beauties are perfect for A/W. 

The burgundy loafers are from New Look and, as well as being ridiculously comfy, they're pretty darn stylish. A steal at under £30, you should really bag yourselves a pair - they're dead ringers for some of the current Russel & Bromley offerings!

Summer sensations

Long time no see lovelies! I don't even have an excuse for my extended absence apart from life being busy busy! I've just been made fashion ed of Lancaster's student newspaper SCAN, so I've been preparing for that role (which formally begins in October) and getting ready for my work placement at Next's Head Office at the end of July! Also, as we all know, time flies when you're having fun, so the last few weeks of second year, although a blur, were spent enjoying myself (can you blame me after seven exams?!)

Anyhow, on to my latest summer wishlist. According to the ever-reliable weathermen, us Brits are going to be soaking up the sun next week in a two week heatwave. Although most of next week will be dedicated to preparing for the Next Summer sale, I'm hoping to catch a few rays. With sunny weather comes a change in wardrobe (naturally) and, as I'm know for my love of all garments granite-coloured, I thought I'd be daring and add a splash of colour to my wardrobe.

This gorgeous green dress would look fabulous with a tan for those of us graced with olive skin and would also suit those classed as 'pale and interesting.' Effectively, this dress is what the UN aims to be: appealing to all and easy to work with. Political giggles aside (cringe) this slip is so Calvin Klein it hurts, making it bang on trend for summer and a sure thing for SS14.

I've always been a fan of Chelsea Doll and their newest collections have been gracing the covers of Look Magazine left, right and center. This fabulous chain/collar ticks the cobalt trend, the beads give a nod to the exotic traveller looks which always appear over the summer holiday season and at £15 it's waaaay cheaper than less detailed pieces you'd find on the high street. Paired with these gorgeous sandals from Urban Outfitters, this look would be perfect for an evening in a local taverna, or a stroll along the beach after dinner.

At £25, Urban Outfitters have done us proud with this versatile beauties, which can be worn from day to night. The hints of neon genius on these shoes will keep the fashionistas happy, whilst the traditional leather strappy look help you channel the local look. Instead of opting for a pair of havaianas, pop these in your case - you'll keep your feet cosy and not look like you've just hopped off a plane from Heathrow.

Plain white tees (the item, not the band) are something everyone presumes to have in their wardrobes. If you're like me and own a cavern filled with clothes which haven't seen the light of day since 2003, I promise you, those 'basics' which you never have to hand don't exist. They've probably been eaten by the giant moth which has taken up residence in your closet. Therefore, it's only sensible to invest in some staples whilst their on the catwalk and therefore in every high street store. This over-sized t-shirt from Fashion Union ticks all the boxes and appears to be better quality than some of its see-through relatives on offer in the shops. At £12 you really can't grumble, especially when, paired with some leggings and your favourite Nike blazers, it becomes the main event of a casual outfit.

The straw bowler is pretty statement, not something that I'd normally pick, however it'd be one of those items I'd leave on the shelf and forever yearn after. The hat itself is unusual, add the ears and ribbon and in theory it's downright crazy, but reality always seems to bite back and sometimes the ridiculous becomes the most stylish. If you do buy this beauty, wear it with pride, people will either not understand you or envy you, and let's face it, in fashion, which other outcome could you possibly want?

The sun has been shining for over a week now, I'm getting suspicious. It's either the end of the world, or global warming has helped Britain out a little. Oh well, there's nothing one likes better than a good cynic. Just like a typical Brit, I've been moaning about the heat, liberally applying sun cream and hiding out in the shade, with the lines 'it's not proper sunshine' or 'it would be better in Spain' on the tip of my tongue.

Anyway, as I mentioned in my previous post, now exams are out of the way, I've had time to let my hair down and actually get to know Lancaster a little better. Sometimes in my posts the only reference to the town is the library which, although quite a cosy spot on a December afternoon, doesn't really resemble the eclectic mix of shops, restaurants, bars and people which are all part of this lovely northern jigsaw. I've been out and about with the house quite a bit and on one rather peculiar shopping trip (which included hunting for a blonde wig, a camel-coloured jacket and cake pop kits) I picked up this gorgeous embroidered dress in the charity shop for £2.99. Yes, it's rather short and yes it has been handmade so the seams aren't perfect and the pattern isn't regular, but pop a black tube skirt underneath, admire its uniqueness and you're sorted! 

Saturday night saw a few of my housemates led on a magical mystery tour of nearby Wigan, by one of the more exuberant residents of 1 Willow lane. It was a surprisingly good night and left me wishing for something a little like Indiependence in Cheshire! I wore the dress and boots (£40 in the Topshop sale - steal!) after being warned that my newly-purchased sky scraper wedges wouldn't survive the night and I'm so glad I did, it's my new favorite outfit!

So as many of you have probably seen on twitter, due to the total love-in between my best friend and I, next week we're popping to Edinburgh for the weekend. There's been lots of stuff going on in my life recently and although everything's hunky dory now, any excuse to buy more clothes is fine with me; therefore, a whole new wardrobe is needed for said trip and I thought I'd take the opportunity to share my 'most-wanted' (clothes, not serial killers) with you. 

Yep, although it's -2 outside and snowing, I want a bikini. Don't ask me why this toppers beauty caught my eye, probably to do with some deep longing for the sun and its general all-round fabulousness. Although it's £32.00, it would be a gorgeous addition to anyone's wardrobe and, if I keep telling myself that I'll definitely learn to surf on my next hot holiday, it's a totally sensible purchase...

I really want some hold-ups, not just because they'd be a corny link with my blog (yes I'm admitting that is one of the reasons) but also because they daymmmm sexy, meaning you can keep your little calves warm without looking like a granny. These fishnet beauts from American Apparel are not cheap but look pretty good quality and paired with flats for the day or boots for night, they will definitely attract interest. 

These white doc-style shoes from Fashion Union, seem to be a pretty sensible buy. The style is pretty androgynous, but fits well with the sports lux and basics trend and I'm sure Fashion Union's well-priced stock won't hang around! 

Denim, sheer material and A line cuts make this little beauty from Motel Rocks a strong contender for best day dress EVER EVER. Although nearing the £40 price mark, one must remember that you get  20% off 

with my code (listed on the right-hand navigation on the bar.) Motel's tomato-coloured pencil skirt is another little lovely that I'd like in my wardrobe and at £20, it's something I'm going to probably end up buying. I'd team it with the gorgeous corset-style bra above, add an oversized shirt and some chain jewellery and my outfit would be complete. I'm really into the new underwear as outerwear trend and although this piece is lacy, it's conservative enough to wear without heads turning for the wrong reasons!

Finally, the Zara collar is pretty reasonably priced but simple enough to wear with so many things. I've got a collar necklace which I don't seem to take off, so this would be great to add to the collection!

So here's an outfit post from the depths of my room at Uni! After trying loads of different areas of my room, I decided that my huge wardrobes were the best background for my pics. (I've not been brave enough to ask my uni friends to take photos of me, feel that's a little OTT!)

I picked up this dress in town yesterday whilst having a cheeky charity shop sesh with my lovely pal Christina. I have to admit, you would never expect to find the gems I've snapped up in Lancaster, but I warn you looks can be deceiving and this little city really does have some fabulously stylish people (who buy lots of clothes!).

This iridescent beauty was at the back of the rail in Age UK and, to be honest, on the hanger it didn't do much for me. Chrissie convinced me to try it on and, although it's a little figure-hugging, I fell for the material and the gorgeous back piece you can see in my last photo. Also, it had all of the Topshop labels still attached and was only £6, it would've been really rude to say no...

I have to admit that I do feel a little bit like Leeloo from 5th Element (If you've not seen it, then it's a brilliant sci-fi film with Bruce Willis in, get it watched!) and the Chelsea Doll cuff definitely makes the outfit.

I wouldn't suggest such an ensemble for Sunday lunch with your folks, you might get a few looks from regulars, however it's definitely an outfit for clubbing which is very on trend for S/S 13.

With Balenciaga's statement sci fi jumper being worn by the fashion elite and Jonathan Saunders experimenting with holographic and unusually textures fabrics, now is the time to let your alien out.

I've not posted for a while since getting back to uni, lots of different stuff has been occupying me, some good, some bad, so my blog has had to take a back seat. This weekend I'm home for some family time and last night my little town was transformed into Narnia as the snow began to fall. 

Being based in Lancaster for most of the year, I do miss out on the snow at home and have been moaning non-stop about the absence of the white stuff due to Lanc's proximity to the sea. Typical! So I finally got to play in the snow this morning and boy it was worth the wait! 

Winter's festive offering was great inspiration for today's outfit, leading me to opt for a monochrome look (very hot for 2013). My jumper dress from Zara (my favourite shop) was £9.99 in the sale, a total bargain and such good quality, teamed with my thermal leggings from M&S (granny chic at its best) and my gorgeous Mango suit coat I was toasty warm but still pretty stylish!

Hello lovelies, hope you're enjoying the Christmas break. Can you believe it's nearly 2013 already? Where did 2012 go?! Feeling slightly cheated as it passed in a blink of an eye! Anyhow, here's the latest outfit post for you, just something nice and simple for a casual dinner. 

I know you've seen this jumper before, but I cannot deny that it's become a staple of mine, studs are still in (thank theee lord) and burgundy will simply not budge on the fashion barometer so I'm still in safe territory! 

The jeans are new and, after their first outing, I think that I'm in love with them already. The two-toned thing to create a slimmer silhouette has been a big trend this year; I mean who can forget that amazing dress Kate Winslette wore, maximising her curves but taking inches off her waistline. Well, in short, that's what these trousers are trying to do, using black on the inside leg and thigh area to make your limbs look longer and model-like. For me, the attraction is the fit, the stretchier denim material used in black really holds you in and the sturdier grey coloured stuff fits neatly round the leg, meaning there's no chance of baggy knees! I normally find it really difficult to find jeans, being between a size 10 and 12 everything is either too baggy or a little too tight. However, these beauties are the perfect fit, something I wouldn't expect from Mango (their jeans are usually designed for models; I've had to turn up the bottoms on so many pairs in the past!) 

Bag-wise, this is an early Christmas present from mum, and it's so lovely. The colour, the material (although not leather, you couldn't tell!) and the gorgeous, heavy clasp at the front make it look very stylish and elegant. It's also big enough for necessities and even a book/folder or two!

The cuff I've blogged about before, but it's honestly become one of my favourite pieces in my wardrobe, it's so simple yet so statement and it's something I wear for most nights out. However, the best thing is that I've not seen anything similar on the high street, so I'm still getting complimented on it a month or so after receiving it from Chelsea Doll!

Hello darlings, hope you've had a wonderful weekend. Just a quick outfit post from me today as I'm mega busy with work, life etc. 

I thought I'd give you a quick taste of my new fave look for autumn. I bought these amazing leggings yesterday in Topshop - they're a black velvet dogtooth print and I think I'm in love. They were a tad expensive for me, at £28, but with my student discount and the gorgeous sunny weather I honestly couldn't say no! I'm so glad I bought these beauties, they'll keep my legs toasty warm during the winter months and can be dressed up or down!

I paired them with this gorgeous top from Next (you can buy it online here) and this amazing cuff from Chelsea Doll which arrived just in time! The cuff fits really well and is such a statement piece. I also love the £11.00 price tag - alot cheaper than some of the high street alternatives I've found! 

I wore this outfit last night when the boyf and I decided to pop out for some very scrummy french food down by the river Lune. We then followed with a trip to the cinema to see the new James Bond which you've got to see. It's an amazing film and can be summed up in two words, Daniel Craig. Seriously girls, you shouldn't need convincing!

Fashion-Savvy for A/W 2012: Passion for Fashion competition

So I was recently contacted by Money Supermarket concerning a value-for-money clothing competition. Being a student, and also being a tight-wad (for my lovely followers who aren't au fait with every English phrase, this translates to 'tight with money') I jumped at the chance to get involved and put together five different outfits, all for under two hundred smackers.

Me being me, I jumped into this but then realised how hard it is to create an outfit (accessories and all) and, on a few occasions, I nearly reached my £200 limit! However, I succeeded in the end and thought I'd share my outfit choices with you guys. Hope you enjoy them!

I adore this outfit as it makes your look a little bit different and is suitable for drinks with friends or a nightclub. All the items are very versatile, so can be re-worked and re-worn with other items - the look won't date and the accessories will hit the A/W S/S trends with little change. Although some items appear steep, they're good quality and also discounted at the online checkout.

ASOS offers students (lucky me!) 10% off purchases so I'd save a tenner on the shoes and necklace and Motel Rocks offers 20% student discount so the playsuit would cost £38.40! Boohoo.com also offer students a lovely 10% off with an NUS card, which means my bag is reduced to £16.20!

TOTAL COST: £169.60

This was definitely one of my more expensive looks and for £169.60 - I think it's a classy, easy-to-wear outfit. (Please note: since the publication of this outfit, Company Magazine has published a 20% off voucher for all students at River Island! This means that the cuff, shown above, would now cost £20 - saving you lucky lot a fiver!)

This is a classic winter look, made a little more urban with the gold chain, flatforms and a parka. I chose these items due to their laid back style which can be mixed up for different occasions. For me, this would be my walk-in-the-woods look - an outfit you'd wear to take the dog for a walk, keeping you warm and stylish. 

The coat is a little steep at £95, but it's a quality piece which will last the test of time, never-mind this season. It's classic design means that it won't date, and you can bet that Parkas will be seen way after A/W 2012. Also, because the lovely people at Topshop offer 10% student discount, taking £9.50 off the price of the coat. ASOS also offer this, meaning the oxblood jeans cost £27, instead of £30. Working at Next means that the jumper will cost me £26.25 (LOVE my 25% discount!) or for all of you who aren't Next employees - Next's surfer voucher competition, entitles all new customers who sign up to £10 off their first order - bringing this gorgeous cable-knit piece to £25! 

Accessories-wise, the necklace from H&M, flatforms and River Island and snood from Chelsea Doll are really competitively priced - you'd have to pay alot more for these bits and bobs in other high street stores (I'm naming no names!).

I always find that people moan about work wear, complaining that the mags put together these crazy, amazing looks which they couldn't wear to the office without being frowned upon by their overly-conservative bosses, yet more traditional work clothes leave a lot to be desired. 

When putting this outfit together, I took these views on board and feel I've created a look that is very smart, will flatter most figures, but also shows a little spark of catwalk inspiration. 

The spiked shoes are huge for autumn/winter while the suit should take you right through to spring and, because of Next's current surfer offer, the suit would cost £74! The Zara court shoes are very well-priced at £39.99 and the bag & necklace add some colour to the look and are both from independent sites - making them unusual as well as being value for money!

Although I've gone for some pretty wowza accessories, I think I've kept the look cutesy with the mini-mouse style dress courtesy of GlamorousUK - an online boutique stocking reasonably-priced clothing. You can also get a 25% off voucher here which is valid 'til September 17th, giving you an extra 20% off all items from Glamorous!

Other savings include: 10% off the Topshop heels (student discount!), the Accessorize bag & pendant were knocked down in price due to a 10% student discount and 10% is also deducted from the New Look blazer at the till!

Purple is set to be a huge colour trend for A/W, so this look will save you pennies in the long run; step out in an on-trend colour, which won't date and will still be hot for S/S 2013

This final look has to be one of my favourites. I love casual clothing and feel that it's harder to put an outfit together to pop to the supermarket or for coffee than going the whole hog and getting dressed up for a night on the town. These items were chosen due to their versatility - a large theme throughout this post. All of the outfits created have multiple uses and can be mixed and matched to create totally new looks. 

Vans are the shoes of the season and, as a chic alternative to a standard pump, will wear well and last longer due to the reinforced bottom, what's more, at Schuh students get a 10% discount!. Dip-dye is a huge trend for A/W 2012 and this beauty from Topshop is yours for only £36, with student discount £32.40! 

This gorgeous little skull necklace is from Frassy Rags and only costs £6 - it's so petite and simple that you could pair it with any look, the same goes for the gorgeous riding pants from American Apparel - arguably steep in price, but so easy to wear. 

The snakeskin bag is the final touch to this look, and, with the 15% student discount offered by DP's (making the handbag £18.75 instead of £25) how can you resist?!

So just a quick post today because I've been so busy! I've just bought my first car and been working non-stop, so it's busy busy busy for me at the mo! So here's something I wore on sunday while the sun momentarily shined.

The top was an absolute bargain from a charity shop and I've had so many lovely comments from friends when wearing it. It's got an aztec-style print on it and although it's brown (not my fave colour) it looks quite sophisticated when on. For simplicity, I teamed it with my old fave's; my black skinnies, which I always roll up so they sit just above the ankle.

The shoes and necklace are the newest additions to my ever-expanding wardrobe/jewellery collection. The shoes I've posted about before, but I really haven't had them off my feet and, for £28, I'm sure they've paid for themselves by now! The little cross was £6 from ASOS and it goes with everything. The style is so simple and so delicate that it's an everyday piece that could be dressed up or down.

Oh and don't get me started on the bag...it's my baby. End of.

Welcome to the jungle

 So today's weather was lovely - beautiful sunshine, but blustery enough that I opted for jeans instead of my too-short shorts. I bought this top yesterday, it was hidden away in a little boutique right at the back of the sale rail. I snapped it up for £7.00. I'd previously seen the top in a number of magazines, including Look (my fave) but hadn't got round to buying it. Guess that it was a purchase that was meant to be!

I teamed it with my Baxter jeans that I dug out of my overflowing wardrobe the other week, during my  "clear out." You know the situation, the "ohmygodIdidn'tknowIownedthese!" Yeah, unfortunately, my love of clothes means that, as my mum says "you forget what you own!" Ah well, at least we've been reunited and at a great time too; having just had to throw my other Baxter babies for getting too 'holey.'

The shoes are growing on me. I LOVED them in the shop, got them home and was, after showing my boyfriend, a little bit more reserved about them. However, the stacked heel and floral print has finally won me round and it's safe to say, they wont be coming off my feet for a while (ew.)

My Mulberry is my baby and it comes everywhere with me, so I'm surprised I've not featured it sooner. Ah well, all I have to say is that it's gorgeous and I've used it everyday, without fail, since my 18th birthday. Definitely an investment. Definitely not an excuse to not buy more handbags.

I promised I would showcase these beauties, so here they are! Tahh dahh!

These gorgeous disco pants are from GlamorousUK and I am head over heels with them. The service from Glamorous was top-notch, I got speedy delivery alongwith text and email alerts from the lovely Glamorous and their fab courier service telling me exactly where my parcel was.

These leggings have been blogged about a few times by various bloggers, and at £29.99 they're a dead-ringer for the more expensive American Apparel version.

As you can probably tell from the pictures they're not jet black, more of a charcoal colour which I think makes them look way more expensive than they actually are. I've had loads of compliments from friends!

This look was hastily put together for a last minute visit to a local bar for some drinks. The dress/top is from Topshop, but I actually picked it up for £4.99 in the charity shop - it still had the Topshop tag on! (was meant to be £20.00, so I got a great deal!) The shoes and the necklace are staples for me, they not majorly impressive, but are the type of thing you can throw on - they go with everything.

So thank you Glamorous for your lovely service and fantastic disco pants! I will be spending alot more money with you!
